Conditioning Limits Freedom

"Why aren't we aware, in ordinary life, of our connection with God-consciousness? Why do we experience ourselves as individual egos instead? The answer, in short, is conditioning. In God-consciousness, we have total freedom to choose among the possibilities that quantum dynamics offer for the states of quantum objects. Conditioning limits this freedom of choice in favor of past responses to stimuli (learning). Eventually, we become conditioned to identify with a particular pattern of habits for responding to stimuli. This identification is the ego.

In ego-consciousness, our choice is restricted to conditioned alternatives -- it emanates from the past, and continuity seems to reign. Some freedom exists for choice, but it is not creative freedom. We cross the border when we say "no" to conditioning, thus becoming open to creative freedom."
